3D Movies: Strike While The Iron Is HOT!
Looks like everyone and their mother is on this 3D craze in Hollywood. Yes it is possible that movies that are in 3D can bring in more money for your studio. Point being Avatar, that movie is a cash machine. We all know ticket prices are more expensive so people can enjoy the 3D environments that are being presented. So it is a no brainer to start making movies in 3D right? Maybe. Maybe Not. Let’s face it, we were spoiled with the 3D footage and special effects in Avatar. I do not think if we start converting movies that have already been shot into 3D that it is a good idea. Movies need to be thought out from the beginning and maybe the first conversation will be “Are we shooting this in 3D or 2D?” But to convert a movie I am a little worried here. Let me add that of course I am a sucker for something in 3D and am going to be seeing what happens to these movies in 3D. My concern is 1. Is it really necessary? and 2. What is the 3D going to add to the movie, because it was not shot to be shown in 3D

Movies that are being converted as we speak:

Clash of the Titans

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Parts 1 and 2)

Movies that might be getting the 3D treatment:

Gremlins

Ghostbusters 3

If we look none of these movies are original ideas in 3D. Two of these movies are remakes (Gremlins and Clash of the Titans) and the others are movies apart of an established series. Hollywood you are doing things in 3D to make money. Yes I am sure I will enjoy the majority of the films because I am easily entertained. What I am really trying to present is that Avatar went out on a limb and just went for it. It was an original idea presented in a 3D format. Hollywood if you want to start making more movies in 3D try using original content to test out the format and not anything established. Then you will see if you really are using and doing 3D properly
